Using social media today became more easy than ever. A lot of options appear, and we always tend to select the bigger ones. I also was on different plattforms over the past decade and also spend a lot of time there. But more and more I realized that somehow thats not it or at least not how I wanted it to be. Ranging from not seeing the content that I wanted, up to the „I actually don‘t care“ with the addition of not feeling well anymore after spending a lot of time each day. Of course there is not the solution, but I‘ve tried some of them over the years. I just want to share some parts of my journey. ...

My first time! It was my first time at a chaos event ever, so keep this in mind while reading this. Some things are myths that I heard before, some things truely flashed my brain and I was just overstimulated with so many things happening at the same time. Where to start? That is a good question. Probably one and a half years ago when I randomly stumbled on some talks from previous chaos events. I remember some awesome ones from (in no particular order) @David Kriesel, @leyrer, @marudor, @Michael Stapelberg and many many more awesome talks which inspired me to get hooked on more of those. At first, what exactly is a static site? There are a lot of explanations out there, but my extremely simplified version is: It’s a website which doesn’t need much resources and is built similar like the websites in 90s. Small files, Easy to serve and display, no application running constantly (besides the webserver it self) and no database. But in modern days, this is impractical due to fast and frequent changes to a website, and only a few people know and want operate those changes directly in HTML or CSS Code. Thats where a static site generator like Hugo comes in. ...

Images on my Website A thing which scared me for the longest time. I mean, from a technical perspective of course. Which file-format, aspect ratio, compression rate, file-size, etc.. There are so many things that pop up and need to be considered when on the internet. Normally those kind of decisions are taken automatically by the platform you upload the image to. They also get optimized and rendered in different sizes already to load always the best version on the client device. This is responsive… and more efficient… and so on. ...
